June 2026 – On 9, 11 and 17 June, the AGE-MEDU project successfully held three multiplier events in Viana do Castelo, Coimbra and Viseu. The events were coordinated and organised by SHINE, represented by Taiane Abreu and Natália Machado. The sessions brought together nursing students and faculty from various institutions, ranging from first-year undergraduates to master’s candidates.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the project’s mission: to transform geriatric and gerontology nursing education through the integration of virtual reality based training. Participants engaged with the project’s core outputs, including the VR platform and interactive learning materials currently under development.
Key Highlights
Curriculum Modernisation – Both students and professors emphasised the pressing need to update nursing curricula to meet the demands of an ageing European population.
VR Platform Engagement – Attendees were given hands-on opportunities to test the VR platform. They experienced immersive, scenario-based training designed to replicate real-world geriatric care challenges. The excitement was palpable as participants explored the technology’s potential to enhance clinical skills and critical thinking.
Learning Through Play – The interactive game component received enthusiastic feedback. Participants described it as a lighter and more enjoyable way to learn. They highlighted how gamification can effectively prepare students for practical stages of their training and make complex geriatric concepts more accessible.
The feedback gathered during these sessions will be instrumental in refining the VR platform, developing digital handbooks for professors, students and internship supervisors.
