The AGE-MEDU project is currently implementing the Assessment Questionnaire on Needs and Gaps in Nursing Education in Geriatrics and Gerontology to identify gaps and needs in nursing education. This study seeks to understand educational needs in geriatrics and gerontology and relies on contributions from students, professors, and healthcare professionals.
By participating, individuals help shape updated and relevant curricula, support improvements to policies and institutions, and contribute to the AGE-MEDU project. This initiative, involving Portugal, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Greece, is dedicated to preparing future healthcare professionals for high-quality older adults’ care.
The research includes an survey involving a minimum of 400 respondents, including students, professors, representatives of associations, and health care professionals. The objective is to evaluate the current state of geriatrics and gerontology education within nursing studies across participating countries. Based on these findings, recommendations will be developed for relevant ministries and agencies to update nursing curricula in higher education.
The University of Porto is leading the implementation of these activities, ensuring a comprehensive and data-driven approach to improving geriatric education.
